Video: Hardliner threatens raid on ‘traitor’ Zarif’s home at Tehran rally

A hardline Iranian lawmaker has called on the judiciary to arrest former president Hassan Rouhani and his foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif after they advocated ending the war.

Hamid Rasaei urged the judiciary to issue what he described as a “judicial shot” to detain the two, following comments in which Rouhani called for preparations to end the war “honorably” and Zarif outlined a framework for de-escalation.

In an article published in Foreign Affairs, Zarif argued that any agreement must go beyond a temporary ceasefire and address the root causes of the conflict. He warned that a ceasefire alone would only delay further fighting.

Zarif proposed that Iran continue limited uranium enrichment under full international supervision as part of a multilateral agreement, while committing not to pursue nuclear weapons. He also called for the lifting of economic sanctions and the signing of a non-aggression pact between Iran and the United States.

Rouhani, for his part, said the country should be prepared to end the war in a way that serves national interests and the public, stressing the need to coordinate resources to prevent attacks on Persian Gulf islands and maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. He added that preserving the country and the Islamic Republic requires immediate policy reforms.

"What share of global oil, LNG, wheat, rice, and fertilizer shipments transits the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait? Which countries and companies account for the highest transit volumes through the strait?" Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf said in a post on X.

Last week, a military source told IRGC-affiliated Tasnim that Iran could open a new front in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait if attacks are carried out on its territory or islands.

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis had previously attacked ships near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Multiple explosions struck Niavaran district in northern Tehran on Friday night, a video obtained by Iran International shows.

The Pentagon has notified the House Armed Services Committee that the status of a second service member remains unknown after a US fighter jet was shot down, the Associated Press reported, citing a congressional aide.

The panel was told one service member has been recovered, while the other’s duty status is unknown, the aide said, speaking on condition of anonymity to disclose the private communication.

That designation generally means the Defense Department does not know the person’s whereabouts and they are considered missing, the report said.

The downing of a US fighter jet will not affect negotiations with Iran, President Donald Trump said in a brief phone interview with NBC News on Friday.

“No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war,” NBC News quoted Trump as saying.

Trump declined to discuss the specifics of ongoing search and rescue efforts in Iran, the report said.
