Exiled prince urges protesters to block streets to hinder crackdown

Jan 4, 2026, 07:25 GMT+0

Iranian exiled prince Reza Pahlavi on Sunday urged protesters to maintain control of the streets and create road blockages to prevent security forces from carrying out a crackdown.

In a social media post, Pahlavi praised protesters for what he described as their courage during the past week of unrest and called for continued street action.

“The key issue is sustaining control of the streets and creating road blockages to prevent and obstruct the regime’s repression,” he wrote.

He urged protesters to maintain unity and discipline, adding: “Victory is yours.”

Addressing demonstrators directly, Pahlavi said, “I salute each and every one of you who courageously, over the past week, have taken sleep away from Khamenei and his regime.”

He singled out young protesters, referring to them as the “Generation V,” which he said stood for victory.

EU voices concern over protest casualties, urges Iran to show restraint

Jan 3, 2026, 21:59 GMT+0

"We follow closely the unfolding situation across Iran, with demonstrations reflecting the demands of many Iranians," a spokesperson for the European Union's External Action Service said on Saturday.

"We are concerned by the reported deaths and injuries and urge Iran's security forces to exercise maximum restraint in handling peaceful protests. Socio-economic challenges were acknowledged by authorities and should be addressed through inclusive dialogue, not through violence."

The European Union called on Iranian authorities "to uphold the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly and to enable the free flow of information and access to the internet."

"All individuals arrested for peacefully exercising their rights should be immediately released."
