US airman injured but safe and sound after ‘miraculous’ rescue, Trump says

Apr 5, 2026, 05:16 GMT+1

US President Donald Trump said a second crew member from a downed American fighter jet in Iran has been rescued and is injured but "safe and sound,” following what he described as a "miraculous" military operation deep inside Iranian territory.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said US forces carried out “one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history” to recover the officer, a colonel, who had been behind enemy lines in mountainous regions of Iran.

He said the airman had sustained injuries but “will be just fine,” adding that US personnel had monitored his location continuously while planning the mission.

Trump also revealed that another pilot had been rescued earlier, but the operation was not immediately disclosed to avoid jeopardizing the second extraction.

He said both rescues were conducted without any American fatalities and described the missions as evidence of “overwhelming air dominance” over Iranian skies.

Iran orders asset seizures targeting expatriates, including media staff

Tehran's prosecutor has ordered the identification and seizure of assets and bank accounts belonging to more than one hundred Iranians living abroad, including actors, athletes, and staff of Persian-language media outlets Iran International and Manoto.

State-affiliated news agencies said the orders include the confiscation of assets belonging to 63 managers, employees, and contributors associated with Iran International, as well as 25 staff and managers of the Manoto network.

The reports described the action as part of enforcing a law that increases penalties for espionage and cooperation with countries deemed hostile to national security.

Top Iranian official warns of enemy attempts to sow internal rifts amid war

Apr 5, 2026, 01:42 GMT+1

The chief of staff to Iran’s president warned that the country must prioritize internal unity, saying the threat facing Iran extends beyond military confrontation to what he described as a broader enemy campaign aimed at influencing public opinion and creating divisions within society.

“We must be concerned about the unity of society,” Mohsen Haji-Mirzaei told the state TV, adding that Iran is not only confronting the enemy’s military machine but also a wider front seeking to shape narratives and deepen internal rifts.

He said the president has consistently emphasized the need to safeguard cohesion despite differing views within the country, noting that decision-making authority ultimately rests with the established leadership structure.

The official also accused adversaries of attempting to widen social divides, while stressing that Iran’s Supreme Leader, in coordination with the Supreme National Security Council, would take what he called the necessary decisions.

Iran says four killed in missile strike near search area for missing US pilot

Apr 5, 2026, 00:08 GMT+1

Iranian state media, citing the governor of Kohgiluyeh County in southwestern Iran, reported that the Kouh Siah area was struck by a deadly missile attack earlier on Saturday, describing it as a “US-Israeli” operation.

The missile strikes hit the telecommunications and IRIB broadcast tower of Kouh Siah in Dehdasht, killing four and injuring one, a deputy governor general of Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad province told state media.

The reported attack comes as search efforts are believed to be ongoing in the same region for an American aviator who went missing after ejecting from a fighter jet shot down over Iran.

There has been no immediate confirmation from US or Israeli officials regarding the reported strike.
