Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy threatens US-linked oil facilities in the region

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy commander warned oil facilities linked to the United States could be targeted alongside American bases in the region.

“With the target bank updated, oil facilities linked to the US will be on par with American bases and will come under powerful fire,” Alireza Tangsiri said in a post on X.

“We warn citizens and workers to stay away from these facilities,” he added.

NATO allies are discussing how to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after disruptions to trade, Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Wednesday.

“We all agree, of course, that trade has to open up again. And what I know is that allies are working together, discussing how to do that. They're working on that collectively, to find a way forward,” Rutte told reporters.

Russia condemns strike near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant

Russia’s foreign ministry has condemned a US-Israeli strike near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, saying Tuesday’s attack landed only metres from an energy unit.

Spokesperson Maria Zakharova called on Israel and the US to halt strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning against further escalation around sensitive infrastructure.

Iran told the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) the strike caused no damage or injuries.

Germany’s Merz says no convincing plan for democratic change in Iran

Germany’s chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Wednesday there is still no convincing concept for how democratic change can be brought to Iran.

"There is still no convincing concept of how this operation will be successful," Merz said.

"Washington did not consult us and did not declare European aid necessary," he added.


Iran president confirms intelligence minister Khatib killed in strike

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed on Wednesday that Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib was killed.

In a post on X, Pezeshkian said Khatib and other senior figures, including Ali Larijani, were killed along with some of their family members and associates.

“The cowardly assassination of my dear colleagues Esmail Khatib, Ali Larijani and Aziz Nasirzadeh… has left us in mourning,” Pezeshkian said in a post on X.

The statement marks the first official confirmation of Khatib’s death following Israeli statements that he had been targeted and killed in overnight strikes in Tehran.

Iranian gas flows to Iraq were halted on Wednesday after an attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field, a senior Iraqi official told Reuters.

Iran diverted gas for domestic use following the strike, the official said.

Tehran supplies between a third and 40% of Iraq’s gas and power needs.
