Strikes result of ‘regime’s catastrophic pursuit of nuclear weapons,' Pahlavi says

Iran’s nuclear program poses a grave threat to international security, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Sunday, urging Tehran to return to the negotiating table to help end the crisis.

“Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon,” Starmer said in a statement, adding that the United States had “taken action to alleviate that threat” with its overnight strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

"Situation in the middle east remains volatile and stability in the region is a priority," he said, adding that ensuring regional stability must remain an urgent international priority.

The US military strike on its nuclear facilities was a violation of the UN Charter and international law, Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday.

The statement came hours after the US bombed three nuclear sites in Iran, its first direct involvement in the conflict since Israel began its military campaign.

“This brutal military aggression… demonstrates the United States’ deep hostility toward the peace-seeking and independence-loving people of Iran,” the ministry said.

It accused Washington of colluding with Israel and held the US fully responsible for the consequences.

"Iran reserves the right to defend its national security and sovereignty with full force," the statement said, warning that silence from international bodies would endanger global security.

Israel has launched a fresh wave of strikes on military targets in western Iran, marking its first attack since the US bombed three Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday, the army said.

Missile launch platforms were targeted in the operation, Israeli sources said.

The strikes reflect Israel’s ongoing effort to degrade Iran’s missile infrastructure, which it considers a central component of Tehran’s offensive capabilities.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it has begun the 20th wave of its attacks on Israel, employing a combination of long-range liquid and solid-fuel ballistic missiles with enhanced warheads.

According to an IRGC spokesperson, the latest missile barrage is targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, a biological research facility, and various command, control, and logistical sites.

The announcement came shortly after the Israeli military confirmed it had launched fresh strikes on targets in western Iran.

Israeli officials believe that enriched uranium was present at the Iranian nuclear facility in Isfahan targeted in the overnight US strikes, Israeli journalist Amit Segal of N12 reported on Sunday.

According to the report, it remains unclear whether the material was destroyed in the attack or buried beneath the rubble.

There has been no official confirmation from the United States or Iran regarding the extent of the damage or the presence of nuclear material at the site.
